Parenting Journey
The Parenting Journey
All families need support in their parenting role. For some parents, that support comes from other family members or friends… for other parents, more formal, regular supports may be required, especially during challenging times.
In response to this, the Parenting Journey pilot was created as a way to work with families to promote the healthy growth and development of children and youth through individualized, home-based support. Families with children ages 3-16 are eligible for the program.
Located in community and neighborhood settings, Parenting Journey builds on the strengths, knowledge’s and resources of children, youth and their families in addressing critical and key areas of support through purposeful and goal-based home visiting.
Parenting Journey recognizes the important role that parents, family and communities play in the lives of children and youth and addresses this through its holistic approach to programming, linkages and referrals.
Parenting Journey involves:
- An initial screening to determine a family’s eligibility for the program
- A family assessment to determine areas of strength as well as potential areas for development
- Family Plans developed in partnership with families that outline specific goals and the steps and activities to achieve those goals
- Regular home based visitation with a specific focus on the goals outline in the Family Plan
- Collaboration and Co-ordination with other service providers to ensure seamless and holistic support for families
- Referrals to other supports, resources and services in the Community
